49. Angela Gets Fired I (b: 23-Sep-86 pc: 0304)

Tony forces Angela to join the family on a tropical vacation when he fears she is too bogged down by her work. While there, she finally agrees to put her work aside. This decision comes just before a major client, angered by Angela's seeming indifference to his interests, withdraws his business from her agency. She returns to face the board of directors, not feeling she's done anything wrong, and is fired from Wallace & McQuade.

Determined to stay optimistic, Angela exhausts her Rolodex looking for a new job, but finds nothing. When her prospects seem bleak, she finds comfort in Tony’s support. With Mona's help, Tony convinces Angela to start her own advertising agency.

After Samantha has a fight with her friend, Tony decides to set an example. He calls an old friend of his, with whom he'd had a fight long ago, and invites him for a visit so they can bury the hatchet. The man is now a priest. But stirring up old memories only riles Tony's friend, who impulsively punches Tony in the jaw, then feels unworthy of the priesthood.

A Retrospect Episode: On a snowy day, the family reminisces about their situations before coming together;
Tony made the decision to leave Brooklyn after he felt Samantha had been involved in too many fights. Angela was dissatisfied with her current housekeeper, and wanted to find a new one. Tony met Mona, who assured him he would get the job.
