At last! Tony and Angela say I do - and there's a baby in their future

You're invited to a wedding on Who's the Boss? Tony Danza and Judith Light will finally marry in a bid to boost the sitcom's sagging ratings.

"Enough is enough after eight years," says a show source. "Danza has always resisted the idea, but given the drop in audience numbers, even he realizes the need a grand wedding episode to bring back viewers."

Plans call for the wedding storyline to extend over at least two episodes, with the "I do's" being spoken during next November's sweeps period. The big moment finally comes after Angela's mom, Mona (actress Katherine Helmond), decides to play matchmaker.

"Mona has always known her daughter and Tony are made for each other, and she'll finally bring them together," reveals an insider.

Mona will tell Tony, "You've always been like a son to me - so I'd be thrilled to have you as my son-in-law."

But Mona will have a harder time selling the idea to her headstrong daughter. Angela has rarely listened to her - and she fears about marrying Tony.

"You'd better get those fears now," says Mona. "You already know that you love each other. You've seen each other at your worst - before breakfast, coffee and makeup. Grab your happiness while you can."

Mona has a secret hope: she'd like one more grandchild. "If the wedding episodes go as planned, look for a baby to arrive by spring," says a TV source.

"Maybe Angela will go into labor in next season's final episode, guaranteeing a ninth season for the show."

Danza prepared viewers for the love-match in the sitcom's two-part spring cliffhanger: Tony and Angela had to share a bed on a train trip to Washington, but there wasn't any hanky-panky.

"They've never let matters reach a sexual stage," says the source, "but the two-parter ended with Tony becoming involved with a high-powered senator's aide (Kim Johnston Ulrich).

"Angela was already feeling jealous, setting the stage for her to admit her feelings - and do something about them - when the series resumes in the fall."

Who's the Boss? was a Top 10 show for years, but slipped in recent seasons. Next fall it is being moved to Saturday nights, going head-to-head with the powerhouse The Golden Girls.

Boss will also be without some key cast members in their regular roles. "They won't have Alyssa Milano (as Samantha) full-time this year," says the source. "She'll appear in 10 episodes, at a whopping $40,000 per show. And Danny Pintauro (as Jonathan) is in each show for just a scene or two.

"With just three main characters, the producers and writers know the show's success depends on juicy plotlines about Tony, Angela and Mona."
